Busch Bedroom

The bedroom on the south-east corner (over the drawing room) was Alexander DeMenil's.  The August A. Busch, Jr. family donated the monies to refurbish this room, thus the name.

The four-poster bed was carved in Virginia with pineapples, acanthus, and tobacco leaves.

The rug, hand-loomed by a blind St. Louisan, is a reproduction of a mid-nineteenth century coverlet.

The "fainting couch," or Adelaide, and the armoire are both original pieces found in the attic at the time of renovation.

he kneeling bench at the foot of the bed was used for evening prayers.

The shaving stand, when in use, was placed by the edge of the bed and the man would sit on the edge of the bed while shaving.

Split window frames in this room, as well as in the other bedrooms, also allow access to the balconies.
