Minnehaha Caves

  • Minnehaha Brewery 18?? – 1867
    • Located at 7th and Broadway
    • Cherokee Brewery 1872 - ??
  • Built by Theodore & Robert Herold
    • Located at 2726 Cherokee St. (corner of Iowa)

Lee Hess

  • Rich Pharmaceutical Manufacturer
  • 1945 Purchases Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion
  • Spent most of his fortune a 4 year project:
    • Converted Mansion 2nd Floor into 2 Apartments
    • Converted Minnehaha Brewery to Museum
    • Removed walls between Lemp and Minnehaha Caves
    • Archeological dig for 6 months exhuming 2,000+ animal bones.

Peccary Cemetery

  • Lived after the last glacial stage of the Ice Age.

  • About 500,000 years ago.

  • Also found; Black Bear, Armadillo, porcupine and raccoon.

  • Akin to a modern day pig

Demascus Palace

  • Originally stood at Maidan in Demascus
  • Home of Mohammedan in the XIII Century
  • Exhibited at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago 1893.
  • Exhibited at the St Louis Word Fair in 1904
  • Hand carved cedar palace.
  • Dismantled in Syria.

Contained:

  • Cradle of Mohammedan Caliph (532AD)
  • Historical tapestries & paintings
  • Window guards from the time of Christ.
  • Fine art of ebony, pearl, ivory, crystal.
  • Shields of exquisite design
  • Swords of Damascus steel.
  • Tile court consists of 4,000 pieces
  • A fountain of rare beauty
  • Gold embroideries textiles and rugs
